As part of the obligations assumed for 2024 and 2025, the Bosnia and Herzegovina Directorate of Civil Aviation (BHDCA) is chairing the Functional Airspace Block Central Europe National Supervisory Authorities Coordination Committee (FAB CE NSA Coordination Committee) in 2026. In this context, the 42nd regular meeting of the FAB CE NSA Coordination Committee was held in Banja Luka on 22 and 23 April 2026.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the implementation of jointly agreed activities and obligations. Experiences, views, and opinions were also exchanged regarding the application of Regulation (EU) 2024/2803 on the implementation of the Single European Sky, as well as the certification and oversight of air navigation service providers (ANSPs). The FAB CE bodies and working groups submitted reports on their activities during the previous period, and further activities were agreed for the period until the next meeting, which will also be chaired by the BHDCA and held in Banja Luka in October 2026. On that occasion, the BHDCA will hand over the chairmanship to the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency.
During 2025, the BHDCA also chaired the FAB CE Council in accordance with its assumed obligations. A total of two meetings were held, one in Banja Luka and the other online, both under the chairmanship of the BHDCA.
FAB CE is a joint initiative of seven Central European States and air navigation service providers - Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia - located at the heart of Europe and managing key air traffic flows across the continent. The airspace of the FAB CE States covers more than 529,000 km² and is managed through 63 airspace sectors and from eight area control centres (ACCs). The establishment of FAB CE aims to enhance safety, reduce flight delays and costs for all airspace users, and mitigate the environmental impact of aviation despite the continued growth in air traffic demand.
The membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in FAB CE is of great significance, particularly given that Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only non-European Union Member State participating in FAB CE.
